Coastal Studio Highlands Gridshell
A major part of my Masters of Environmental Design Studies - Design Build was the summer long participation in Dalhousie Architectures Coastal Studio with Professor Ted Cavanaugh. I was one of 4 full time builders working on site all summer, with additional students for shorter periods of time. This year’s studio entailed participation in the 3rd year of the design-build of the Highlands Gridshell. The Highlands Gridshel is the “fifth gridshell from the collaborative series between Dalhousie University, University of Arizona, University of North Carolina Charlotte, and University of Louisiana Lafayette.” This years work consisted of creating/repairing oak laths, raising the oak members, facing them together at the marked intervals and connecting them to the edge condition.
